6. Converting

• The matte is transferred to a converter furnace, where oxygen is blown through the molten matte.

7. Refining

• Electrolytic Refining: Pure copper is obtained by electrolysis. Blister copper is used as the anode in an electrolytic cell, and a thin sheet of pure copper acts as the cathode. Copper ions from the anode dissolve into the electrolyte (acidified copper sulfate solution) and deposit onto the cathode as pure copper (99.99%).
