Gold CIL process (carbon in leaching) is very popular way to process the high grade oxide type gold ore
Vein gold refers to gold found in quartz veins or other hard rock deposits. Extracting gold from such deposits often requires specific techniques to separate the gold from the surrounding rock. The five most common vein gold extraction processes are:
Gravity separation is one of the oldest and simplest methods for extracting gold. It leverages the significant density difference between gold and other minerals. Common equipment used includes jigs, shaking tables, and sluices. This process is effective for coarse gold particles and is often used in combination with other methods.
Flotation is a process used to concentrate gold by separating it from sulfide minerals or other impurities. It involves crushing the ore, adding flotation reagents (such as frothers and collectors), and creating bubbles in a slurry. Gold-bearing minerals adhere to the bubbles and float to the surface for collection. This method is particularly effective for gold associated with sulfides, like pyrite.
Cyanidation is the most widely used method for extracting gold from vein deposits. It involves dissolving gold into a cyanide solution to isolate it from other materials. The process consists of steps such as grinding, agitation, leaching, and adsorption. Gold is then recovered from the cyanide solution using activated carbon or electrolysis. It is ideal for both fine and low-grade gold deposits but requires careful handling due to environmental concerns.
Amalgamation involves using mercury to form an alloy with gold, which can then be separated from the surrounding rock. It is suitable for coarse gold but has fallen out of favor due to the environmental and health hazards associated with mercury pollution. Many modern operations avoid this method entirely.
Heap leaching is similar to cyanidation but is carried out on a larger scale using ore stacked into heaps. A cyanide solution is sprayed over the heap, dissolving gold as it percolates through the pile. This method is cost-effective and suitable for low-grade vein deposits, but it may also pose environmental challenges if not managed properly.
The choice of extraction method depends on factors such as the mineralogy of the ore, the size of the deposit, and environmental considerations. Often, multiple methods are combined to optimize gold recovery and minimize waste and costs.
